The New York Pop is one of the largest pops orchestra in United States of America. The New York Pops is the only orchestra in the New York which has specialized in the American music. This orchestra is led by Steven Reineke these people usually perform for the birthday gala at Carnegie hall. This famous orchestra was founded by music director Skitch Henderson to display the heritage of American music to the world.
The artists in the New York Pops orchestra are a huge and varied collection. The songs sung by the New York Pops include works of various artistes like Stephen Sondheim, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin, Aaron Copland, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter George Gershwin and Richard Rodgers.
Other than the artistes in the orchestra there are also guest performers who just perform for one or two shows and sometimes these are surprises for the audience. There would not have expected some of the biggest singers appearing and singing at Carnegie hall. Some of the guest singers are Reba McEntire, Carol Channing, Michael Feinstein, Tony Bennett, Jerry Lewis, Elaine Stritch, Kelli O’Hara, Doc Severinsen, George Shearing, Marilyn Horne, Liza Minnelli, Lea Salonga, Fantasia, Marvin Hamlisch, Bebe Neuwirth, The King’s Singers, and Elmo.
Most of the New York Pops shows give free tickets to the children and allow them to sit in the balcony and watch the show at Carnegie hall. Even schools or any education institutions can request for the free tickets and allow the kids free of cost. Also it is believed that around 830 children fill the balcony area to listen to the New York Pops songs.
